Jesus leads His disciples into an impossible circumstance, so they will see He is all the solution they need. But first they must learn a hard truth. The only vessel God can fill completely is an empty one.

Surrounded by 5,000 people, Jesus asked Philip, “How will we feed them?” The Savior wants His disciples to turn from their resources and look to Him, so that the only hand they will hold will be His.

All twelve disciples now share Philip’s dilemma when Jesus says to them, “You give them something to eat”. There are some lessons we will never learn unless we face impossible circumstances.

The disciples were willing to try the impossible, with no resources, knowing they would fail. Did Jesus want them to ‘burn out’ for Him … or to recognize their insufficiency and finally turn to Him?

Throughout their impossible circumstances, Jesus wanted the disciples to see Him as their sufficiency. After He feeds the 5,000, the Savior shows His love for the disciples by filling them to absolute fullness.
