It’s wonderful to teach the Word of God. We need to do that. But it’s also wonderful to hear testimony about how the Word of God taken by the Holy Spirit and placed into the mind and heart of mankind transforms them. I want to share a word of testimony today.
When Hurricane Katrina rolled into New Orleans, it was a very dark time and dark times have a way of providing the opportunity for the church to have its finest moment and shine the light in that darkness. And that’s exactly what happened. The church in America rose up and flooded this area with the light and love of Jesus, expressed tangibly through hard work, provision, and of course, finances. Grace Life Fellowship received a lot of those finances. People entrusted us to use those finances wisely.
We decided to find a pastor that we could pour into and help him to re-establish his local church so that it could shine the light in those dark days. In the rebuilding process, we found that man, his name was Alden. We spoke multiple times over the phone and finally set up a meeting with the elders. When he came in, we were surprised to see he was in a wheelchair because he had no legs. We asked him to share his testimony and he shared how, as a young man, he was running across the tracks, slipped, fell, and a train took both his legs. Then he quickly added these words.
But what I've learned over the years is you don't need legs to walk with God. All you need is a mind to believe and a heart to follow.
Oh, my goodness. That was many years ago, but Alden’s testimony continues to stir my heart. And today, I hope it stirs yours. Let me share his words again: “You don’t need legs to walk with God. All you need is a mind to believe and a heart to follow.”
I don’t know what you’re going through. I don’t know what the circumstances are in your dark days, but whatever it is, you can remember Alden’s testimony. You don’t need money to walk with God. You don’t need a spouse to walk with God. You don’t need a job to walk with God. You don’t need health to walk with God. Oh, the lack of all those things can bring frustration and sorrow and fear and unpleasantries, to be sure. But you don’t need any of those things to walk with God. All you need is a mind to believe, and a heart to follow.
Be encouraged, my friend, you are not alone in your journey. The living God lives in union with you to be all that He is to whatever you need in the very moment of faith. Bless you, in His wonderful name.
