If you’ve been a part of the ministry of Our Resolute Hope for any length of time, you know that one of my favorite phrases is, “Do not read the Bible casually, read it intently, read it with purpose.” There are treasures in the Word of God. Sometimes it’s on the surface, but a lot of times it’s hidden.
The treasures are reserved only for those who have the desire to dig deep and find them.
Case in point, today, is the story of Moses. You remember it well, I’m sure. He tried to deliver the nation of Israel from the bondage of Egypt using his own resources. He drew a sword and killed an Egyptian, but he had to run for his life. His plan didn’t work according to what he thought and he spent the next 40 years in the wilderness. And then God spoke to him uniquely through the burning bush.
The bush was on fire, and yet it was not on fire. There was a fire in the bush, but the bush was not blazing. That’ll tweak your mind. Moses went to investigate, and as he got closer, there was a voice and the voice was God, saying “Take your shoes off, son. This is holy ground.” Why was it holy ground? Because of the presence of God in the bush. But there’s treasure there, if we dig deeper, think about it.
The ground was holy because the presence of God made that ground holy.
Where is the presence of God now for you in a New Covenant economy? The presence of God is in you. My friends, do you see it? That means that everywhere you put your foot on this planet, it instantly becomes holy ground. Oh, my goodness. If I’m in your presence, I should take off my shoes. Please understand, when I’m saying that I’m not trying to be slick. I’m trying to make you think of how significant you are, how radical you are. You bring the presence of the living God of the universe everywhere you go!
You are transforming the ground you walk on into holy ground.
If we really understood this, would we treat ourselves with incredible respect and honor and dignity? And would we treat others the same way? Realize who you are, my friend, and stand tall today in the darkness of this world, knowing that you are on holy ground because God is in you. Paul never got over this truth. He called it Christ in us, our hope. The Greek word there for hope means “confidence.” Our confidence of glory is Jesus in and through us to the glory of God.
