Today I have a very short but very powerful word for you from our Father’s love letter called “the Bible.”
In Luke’s Gospel, he recorded the account of when Jesus called Matthew. Luke records that Jesus saw Levi, a tax collector.
”After that He went out and noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me.” And he left everything behind, and got up and began to follow Him.
Luke 5:27-28(NASB)
When Mark wrote his Gospel and recorded the call of Matthew, likewise, he records that Jesus saw Levi, sitting in the tax booth.
”As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.
Mark 2:14(NASB)
Interesting, isn’t it? Those two writers identified Matthew by who he was (Levi) and according to what he did.
Matthew wrote his Gospel after he understood and conveyed the message of the New Covenant.
”As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.
Matthew 9:9(NASB)
God makes men new and He doesn’t identify people by their behavior.
He wrote, “Jesus saw a man”. Isn’t that wonderful?
Jesus didn't see a tax collector. Jesus saw a man.
My friends, enter into the glory of the New Covenant to no longer allow yourself or others to define you by what you do or what you’ve done.
The only true way to define ourselves is the way God defines us — as His creation and His believers as His new creation. I am Frank and I am a child of God. And so are you, if you have put your faith in Jesus. Bless you, in His wonderful name.
